Circle of Life Art Contest

Mother and Child
Calling all artists! Now through April 25th we are accepting submissions for the Circle of Life art contest. The winner will be featured on the cover of Women in Art 278's May issue. Additionally, the winning artist will also have an additional (interior) two page spread where your statement / write up about your artwork and its connection to the theme will be featured.

The cost to participate is included in a single or double page spread, which means all artists who purchase either a single page or double page spread in Women in Art 278 will have their works featured whether they win the cover page art contest or not.

We do accept literal and abstract interpretations for our cover page art contests. And, we do not limit cover page art to a specific genre. We welcome creative expression and ideas. If you have questions about the contest, please contact us directly.

If you are ready to submit artwork for the Circle of Life Art Contest click here.

** Please note, artist pages within the magazine are not restricted to the contest theme. Individual artist pages may showcase any type of art and genre. The only prohibited artworks are those that promote racism, hatred and violence.

Final Call - April 2014 issue

Good morning, Artists! Today is the final day to submit artwork for the April 2014 issue. Today you still have the opportunity to submit for the cover and/or for your individual artist pages. We have a few spaces left because we have had to reject a few submissions due to file size/image quality. Please be sure your artwork is submitted at 300dpi because our magazine is available electronically but is also printed. As such, we must accommodate the higher image quality need of printing.

If you have any questions about submissions, please read our commonly asked questions/answers. And, here is a link about our cover page art contest.

Thanks and best of luck!!

If you are ready to submit, click here to fill out the submission form.

Support Artists.

Certainly it can be more affordable to purchase mass-produced artwork from big corporations that sell to buyers at wholesale price. But, supporting artists and buying from them directly makes a tremendous difference for them, their business, their family and their communities.

June 2014's Cover Page Art Contest: Trafficking

If only slavery was in the past and remained locked away in a history where we (as a collective human race) could reflect about a horrific time where injustice was widespread ... but alas, slavery is among us today and, often times, is right in front of our eyes and yet we don't see it.

The Art Contest for June 2014 is in recognition of Trafficking and giving a face to the nameless babies, children, teens and adults who live or perished while imprisoned.

A few basic guidelines for Women in Art 278 Magazine's Art Contest  ...
  1. We welcome literal and abstract interpretations of the theme.
  2. The artist must submit a write up about their artwork and how it connects with the theme. The write up should be no less than 500 words. Artists may write in their native language. We can work together to translate it to English. For samples of the types of artwork that won (and their write up), we suggest checking out previous magazine issues (as found on
  3. The artwork must either be vertical (to fit the formatting for the cover) or must have dimensions large enough so we can crop the artwork (or have it span across the cover - back to front)
  4. Entry to the cover page art contest is included in the purchase of a single or double page spread. So, even if an artist isn't selected, their artwork will still be shown in the issue. We think this approach is the best (and most fair) for our artists.

Follow Your Dreams

Lupita's @Lupita_Nyongo ) humility and honesty resonated with those who watched or read her Oscar acceptance speech. Let's all be sure that every young girl knows that their dreams are valid, too.

“Thank you to the academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsy for her guidance, to Solomon [Northup], thank you for telling her story and your own ... When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid," said Lupita Nyong’o.
